Paul Rudd is in a ton of memorable movies for a reason: He’s funny. Check out his It’s a Wrap-sheet: Anchorman, I love You Man, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Role Models & Forgetting Sarah Marshall. ‘Our Idiot Brother’ is really Paul Rudd’s first full throw at a starring role. There’s a Hollywood term: He’s got to carry this movie.
Rudd plays an organic farmer named Ned. He trusts people to a fault & simply believes to believe in the best everyone has to offer. This movie really doesn’t go for laughs. This is more in the way of just a nice story. There are lots of people with lots of issues here.
For starters, his sisters Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) Natalie (Zooey Deschanel) & Liz (Emily Mortimer). As an audience, we have to sit through each one of their respective issues & it’s all over the place in terms of pacing. All the usual suspects of the last 3 years of comedy are here. Ned’s ex-girlfriend, Janet (Kathryn Hahn, Step Brothers) won’t budge on a certain sentimental item. Rounding out the supporting cast, is Miranda’s neighbor Jeremy, (Adam Scott, Step Brothers) Natalie’s girlfriend Cindy (Rashida Jones, I Love You Man)
The moral of this story is: We all in some way shape or form need to be NED-ified. That basically means, less cynicism. Hey, that’s something we can all get behind right? Hey, was that a smirk?
Ned may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he’s caught up on movies! Did you know, you can save money on movies with the Film Freak iPhone App. Just search Film Freak.
